Pella TF District Win 5-13

The late, great Louis Armstrong once crooned, “I see trees of green. Red roses, too.” There will be plenty of that in Des Moines next week after the dominance showed by the Pella High boys’ and girls’ track and field teams in last night’s state qualifying meet at Bondurant-Farrar. The Little and Lady Dutch each won their respective meet by at least 60 points. On the girls’ side, Pella scored 180 points, beating second-place South Tama by 76, by qualifying 14 events to the Class 3A state meet. Coach Dak Rasmussen tells KNIA/KRLS Sports he also feels good about four other events that didn’t finish first or second to receive one of the at-large bids. Knoxville had two events qualify on the girls’ side; Annika Pingel of Pella and Kendrea Richardson for the Panthers went 1-2, in that order, in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Much like the conference meet, the Lady Dutch took the gold in every relay race, with exception of the distance medley, where they were the runner-up to Williamsburg. The Little Dutch scored 182 points to win their district title by 62 over Williamsburg. Pella had 15 automatic qualifiers, with four others likely to receive one of the outside bids to get in to next week’s Class 3A state meet. Knoxville’s girls scored 56 points and finished seventh, and the boys had 35 points to take eighth place. The Panthers’ 4 x 200 meter relay team was third, with a chance to make it in when the full list of state qualifiers are announced later today.
