Final decisions related to significant budget reductions in the Pella Community School District will be made in the coming weeks. Superintendent Greg Ebeling says after receiving recommendations from a Long Range Planning Committee and from the administrative team, he will release his own proposal to the Pella School Board on Friday for what should amount to nearly $850,000 in recommended reductions.

Ebeling says that list, coupled with more than two dozen early retirements, will get the district to where it needs to do to run back in the black as it relates to the general fund. The district intends to reduce expenditures in the fund that primarily pays for staff and supplies by $1.3 million over the next two fiscal years. A public hearing will follow with the Pella School Board on Thursday, February 1st, and after, the board will then vote to make its recommended cuts at the regular Monday, February 5th meeting.
