Little Dutch Soccer Host Invitational Tournament

If the weather cooperates, the Pella High boys’ soccer team will host their annual tournament the weekend before Tulip Time at the Pella Soccer Complex this morning. The Little Dutch enter play 8 – 2 overall, and with the knowledge that they have a friendlier path to the state tournament than they did a year ago. The big thing Pella is having to deal with right now is their depth being put to the test with various injuries to starters. His team has handled it well, says Coach Mark Solomon, and the guys have learned to play as a unit despite the shakeup of the line-up. The tournament will be played round robin style. Ottumwa and Clear Creek – Amana are in Pella’s bracket, with Southeast Polk, Indianola, and A-D-M comprising the other bracket. Today’s tournament will begin at 9:00 a.m.

Caldwell Park Jumping with Girls’ Tennis Action Today

Five teams converge on Caldwell Park this morning for a varsity girls’ tennis invitational tournament in Pella. The host Lady Dutch welcome Pella Christian, Knoxville, Oskaloosa, and Indianola. The change in format will again be an adjustment for the more inexperienced players for all teams, and for Pella Christian, Coach Danielle Stubbs feels that it will be a great test for when the team and individual regional tournaments begin later this month. The action in the Tulip City is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m.
