Sheriff Ron Goematt is reporting that phone scammers are again targeting the elderly in Marion County. The callers often claim to be grandchildren who need money. A story they commonly use is they are a grandchild who needs money to get out of jail. Anyone who receives one of these calls should report it to a law enforcement agency. Since early this week, the Pella Police Department received multiple reports from residents that they believed they had been contacted by a phone scammer.
