Today is Earth Day and Knoxville residents are getting a new place where they can relax and enjoy some of the finer things in the environment. 7 trees and 18 shrubs will arrive this morning for the future Pocket Park, which will be located on the east side of Roche Street between Marion and Main in Knoxville. The plants are large enough that there will be an immediate impact once they are planted Thursday afternoon, beginning at 2pm.

Park designer Harv Sprafka says the park will improve the look of Knoxville at no cost to tax payers. He says the funding for the park comes from donations from utility companies, Alliant and MidAmerican energy along with the Knoxville Heritage Foundation and most recently the Iowa Phi Master Sorority and Knoxville Senior Center.

Members of the Knoxville High School Science Club, FFA and Vo Ag department along with representatives from A Call to Serve Ministries and area Boy Scouts will help with planting this afternoon, but additional volunteers are needed. Those who would like to help are asked to call Harv Sprafka at 842-2236 or show up at the pocket park Thursday at 2pm.
