The cancellation of the spring sports season means the loss of a chance to achieve greatness at state. The Pleasantville girls track and field team had high expectations for the season, and coach Aaron Fichter envisioned several events would qualify for state. He says that one relay team and two individuals were near locks to get in.

“The things I was pretty confident in revolve around those senior kids with some other pieces in there. Our 4×2 finished 21st, and I actually think that one was going to surprise some people, just what we were running in practices and how the kids had improved from the offseason. Kasey Pelzer in her individuals almost qualified for finals, and she’s faster than she was last year. I think she had a legitimate chance to make finals, who knows what would happen from there. Long jump, I think she had a legitimate chance to compete for a title, she finished sixth last year. Rae Speicher in the 200, that was something new this year. I was not anticipating that, and she looked really strong in it. She ran a comparable time to kids that qualify for finals. She looked like she maybe could’ve done something there.”

The Trojans, like all other teams in the state, missed out on all those opportunities. Seven seniors will depart the program.
