The latest population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau showed another slight decline in population for Marion County and many adjacent counties, while other neighboring counties see continued growth.

According to year-to-year data, the cities of Pella, Knoxville, Pleasantville, and Melcher-Dallas all had a dip in the number of people in their communities. Since 2010, the county’s overall population has dropped by .6%, or 204 residents. Slight decline was also reported in Lucas, Monroe, and Mahaska Counties. Warren County, however, has seen an 8.5% increase over the last seven years, and trend that continued in 2017, and Jasper County has grown by a more modest 0.3%.

The estimates are compiled by the U.S. Census Bureau to help states, counties, and cities keep track of trends.
