President Barack Obama visited the area on Tuesday as part of his three day bus tour across Iowa. He stopped at the Nelson Pioneer Farm and Museum and gave a speech to a crowd of around 850 people. His speech focused on the economy, tax breaks, and renewable energy, highlighting the opposing viewpoints of the Romney-Ryan Campaign. The event drew residents from all over Iowa, with buses on scene to transport people to his other two campaign stops in Iowa for that day. Some residents from Pella were there as well, including Chris Holz, who says he supports Obama because he works to help students better their lives through higher education.
