The Knoxville Fire Department was dispatched to the 600 block of North 7th St for a roof that had collapsed with a person trapped and gas leaking on Saturday evening. When the department arrived just after 6 p.m., they found one room with the ceiling collapsed, and the person who was in the room at the time of the collapse had exited and was waiting for emergency services. That person was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Fire crews checked the building and found that there was no gas leaking. Structural stability was accessed and deemed unsafe for several rooms in the wing. Those rooms were shut down until building officials can make a full assessment. The Knoxville Fire Department was assisted by the Knoxville Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Pella Emergency Services, and Marion County Emergency Management.
