With what seems to be a daily occurrences, scam artists keep coming up with new ways to get to your money.

Recently an elderly women in Knoxville was the victim of a scam in which she received a call telling her that her son was in jail and the only way to get him out was by sending money at that very moment. After the victim sent the scam artist her money she received another call demanding more money. It was at that moment she decided that something didn’t seem right and decided to contact the Knoxville Police Department. Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada says “One comment threat we see in a lot of these scams is the person calling you tells you don’t tell anyone else, it’s a secret or they say we need this money now you have to send it right now. In either of those cases that should be a red flag that something’s wrong here.” If you have been contacted by a scam artist or became the victim of a scam, contact your local police department.
