For the first time this year, the KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team was on the air for a warning impacting portions of Marion County. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued just before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday for northeastern Marion County, as well as portions of Jasper, Poweshiek, and Mahaska Counties. Live coverage of the storm was on with five staff members supporting on air coverage, with Weatherology Meteorologists calling in live updates. The storm itself largely stayed along the Jasper-Marion County line, with no major damage reported to the National Weather Service. KNIA/KRLS is on the air with live severe weather action team coverage for any tornado or severe thunderstorm warning impacting any portion of Marion and Warren Counties, with backup generators ensuring the coverage stays on if the power goes out.
