Pella residents who still have broken tree limbs in their yards from the January ice storm will likely have to dispose of them in a conventional manner. At this week’s Pella City Council meeting, the council discussed establishing a special brush collection with no action taken on the matter.

Pella City Administrator Mike Nardini tells KNIA/KRLS News that when the city has held special brush pick-ups in the past, federal funding has been available to cover the cost because the county was declared a Presidential disaster area. He adds that city employees also estimated the damage of the latest storm to have been about five to ten percent of the total damage caused by ice storms in previous years.

Nardini says the issue will again be discussed by the council at a later date, and adds that the city does offer regular brush pick-up on the third Wednesday of each month. Anyone with questions on the regular brush pick-up should contact the Pella Public Works Department at 628-1601.
