A petition for a Special Election for the Indianola Mayor position has been verified by the City of Indianola, after being submitted on October 30th. The petition contained a total of 547 signatures, of which 413 were verified, which exceeded the 335 signatures required by state law in order to call for a special election. Signatures were not verified if they were illegible, provided an address outside of city limits, or the name was not found in Warren County or City of Indianola databases. The Resolution of Intent for the Special Election will be brought to the Indianola City Council on November 16th. According to state law, the earliest a special election can be held is March 2nd, 2021, and is expected to cost $10,000. The elected mayor will serve following certification of the special election through the remaining term of December 31, 2021.
