With the fiscal year coming to a close at the end of June, and the Iowa Legislature not having passed a budget for FY21, there is a contingency plan in place for the state to continue to run. State Senator Julian Garrett tells KNIA News for at least two months after the fiscal year ends, the state will have a budget.

“If we cannot reconvene before the new fiscal year starts on July 1st, we provided a contingency for two months in July and August an ongoing appropriation we would use the same numbers we have used for the current fiscal year that we are in now.”

Garrett also said school funding is not included in the plan, as that was previously passed by the legislature.
