With most of the members of last year’s State Tournament-qualifying team back from a season ago, the expectations were high in the 2011-12 season for the Pella Christian girls basketball team. After a long and challenging journey, the Lady Eagles again find themselves among the eight-team field at Wells Fargo Arena, with their State Tournament run starting this Tuesday morning. Following Pella Christian’s win over Monticello on Monday night, KNIA/KRLS Sports Director Eric Gotschall talked with all seven seniors on this year’s squad about what makes this season different, what they’ve enjoyed the most about the ride so far, and why they think they’ve got what it takes to make a splash in “the Well”.

Behind a stingy defense and several key free throws, the Pella Christian girls pulled away from Bondurant-Farrar in the second half for a 55-38 win in Friday night’s Class 2-A Regional Semifinal.

Behind an impressive performance from Paige Engbers, the Pella Christian girls basketball team closed out the regular season in fine fashion; with a 65-32 win over Norwalk last night.

The Pella and Pella Christian girls basketball teams entered last night in a virtual tie for second place in the Little Hawkeye Conference, but that was changed in 32 minutes of gameplay; as the Lady Dutch downed the Lady Eagles 53-42 at Pella Christian High School.
