Tomorrow the new texting while driving law take effect across Iowa.

Law enforcement officers will have the authority to pull over drivers they suspect of using their cellphones to send messages, take pictures or browse the internet. Chief Dan Losada with the Knoxville Police Department tells KNIA/KRLS News the fine for texting and driving is $30 but with court costs and other factors it could run as high as $200. Losada says, the old law was harder to enforce because it was for anyone 18 and under but now with the new law he hopes it will cut down on the amount of people texting and driving.
