The United States Postal Service has announced it intends to close the Hamilton Post Office. Citizens have 30 days to appeal the closure to the Postal Regulatory Commission as of yesterday. That means the last day an appeal can be filed is August 8. The post office currently has no postmaster, and that position is currently being filled by a temporary worker.

The Hamilton post office was established in 1850. The 2010 Census documented 130 residents in Hamilton, down from 144 in 2000. Population peaked in the town in 1900, with 538 residents. KNIA/KRLS will bring you more information as it becomes official.
