Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources have released the name of a Vinton man who was injured in a hunting accident west of Pella on Saturday. Iowa State Conservation Officer John Mertz tells KNIA/KRLS News that 34-year-old Daniel Higdon was apparently re-holstering a handgun when the pistol discharged; striking him in the lower leg early Saturday afternoon.

The accident was reported by some hunters who came upon Hidgon at approximately 12:53 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, near 140th Avenue and Highway 14. Higdon was transported by Pella Ambulance to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Patrol assisted in the investigation.
