Kirk Korver, a 2009 Pella graduate is the fourth Korver to play Division 1 College Basketball. Korver followed in his brothers footsteps when he signed on to play for the Kangaroos at the University of Missouri Kansas City . Korver is currently in his freshman year at UMKC and says he’s learning new things every day. He says he’s continuing to adjust to the faster paced, more athletic, physical type of play at the Division 1 level, but says he’s enjoying every minute of it. The Kangaroos, who play in the Summit League, inished at the bottom of the standings last year, and are picked to be toward the bottom again this year. Korver says they use that as motivation and are working hard to improve every day. Korver says he just goes out every day and does his best to help the team win and is willng to accept whatever role he’s asked to fill. Korver is averaging 12 1/2 minutes and 4 1/2 points and two rebounds per game so far this season through 10 games. His best outing was in their season opener which was an 80-62 win over Truman State where he scored 12 points and pulled down four rebounds. Korver was a guest on last Wednesday’s PM Sports Page Show on KNIA/KRLS. The Kangaroos are currently on a two game winning streak and 6-4 overall. They play at St. Louis tonight. Kirk’s older borther Kaleb is currently a Junior at Creighton.
