The Knoxville Girls’ stingy defense came up big again last night in a 37-22 win over Pella Christian. Knoxville came out and led by eight after one quarter and was shut out in the second quarter by Pella Christian’s defensive play. However in the second half Knoxville would slowly build to a ten point lead and stretched it to 15 when the Eagles were forced to foul. Knoxville Coach Jim Utiermarkt said the plan was to not let Pella Christian inside and hope the Eagles miss from the outside. Pella Christian coach Kevin Van Maanen said their defense played good enough to win however their offense never got going. Despite holding Knoxville scoreless in teh second quarter, the Eagles only scored four points of their own during that same span. Bethany Just led the Panthers with 11 points and eight rebounds which was also a team high. Sam Abens had ten points on the night and claimed five boards. Pella Christian was led by Christina Nolte with nine points. Pella Christian is now seven-and-seven on the season and five-and-four in Little Hawkeye Conference play…while Knoxville remains perfect at 13-and-oh and eight-and-oh in the conference.
