The improvements continue for the Central College Wrestling team as the Dutch ended a 5-year drought with decisive back-to-back upset victories at the Iowa Conference Duals Saturday. Central was 2-2 on the day. 14th ranked Luther handed the Dutch a 39-9 loss but Central rebounded with a 26-15 win over Loras and a resounding 33-10 victory over Buena Vista, before 10th ranked Cornell handed the Dutch a 38-3 loss to end the day. .The Loras win was Central’s first dual victory over an Iowa Conference opponent since 2004, snapping a 38-match losing streak. Central’s last win over Loras was Jan. 28, 1995. Tommy Van Renterghem (RENTERHAM) a sophomore from Oskaloosa was 4-0 on the day for the Dutch at 165 pounds, as he improved to 17-6 overall. Ivan Gaeta was 2-0 at 174 pounds and Theron Stewart was 1-0 at 197. Four Dutch wrestlers were 2-1: including Jon Mendoza at 133 pounds, Josh Atwell at 141, Joe Atwell at 149 and Keith Rush at 184. Central has a week off before making a home appearance in a triangular Tuesday, Feb. 2 at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium. Central is now 7-8 in duels on the season.
