To say it’s been a tough season for the Central College women’s basketball team would be an understatement, to say the least. Following Saturday’s 71-61 loss at Luther, the Dutch are on an unprecedented 15-game losing skid, and are in danger of setting a new record for losses in a season. Central Head Coach Jerry Nikkel says the team has shown the right attitude, but says it’s been a hard season to endure.
“I give the kids credit for coming to practice every day and working as hard as they do, because it would be easy just to walk away at this point…” said Nikkel. “Nobody’s in that mode, though, and everyone continues to work hard and try to figure out how we can get better, and that’s what we just try to keep working on.”
The Dutch are 2-20 overall, just one loss shy of the record 21 losses set during the 2007-08 season. Central has three games remaining on the schedule and will try and put the brakes on their losing streak on Wednesday, when they host Loras. The Duhawks defeated the Dutch 98-72 in Dubuque earlier this season.
