As previously reported by KNIA/KRLS News, the unusually snowy and icy winter has put a strain on the budget for Pella’s Street Maintenance Department. In addition to the cost of sand and salt and contracted labor for snow removal, the department is now facing the reality of overtime pay for city workers. Pella Public Works Director Denny Buyert says many workers have hit the maximum amount of compensated hours they can build up, and says the time removing snow has also taken time away from other seasonal tasks.
