Cold temperatures and a lot of snow this winter could lead to flooding problems this spring. Jeff Zogg, Senior Hydrologist with the National Weather Service in Des Moines says that consistently cold temperatures have kept the snow from melting much, which has led to large accumulations in South Central Iowa this winter.

He adds that the current snow pack, combined with saturated soil, a quick thaw or significant rain event would be enough to cause flooding in many areas around the state, including in Marion County.
