Iowa Speedway will recognize one of the greatest moments in racing history, the 50th anniversary of the Knoxville Nationals, during opening ceremonies at the USARacing Pro Cup event tonight. Officials at Knoxville Raceway and Iowa Speedway have combined efforts to promote the two tracks during the next few weeks, with Knoxville Raceway’s grand event recognized as the presenting sponsor of tonight’s Pro Cup stock car race at Iowa Speedway, now known as the ‘Blue Ox 150 presented by the 50th Anniversary of the Knoxville Nationals’.

During pre-race ceremonies for the 150-lap USARacing event, two of the most admired figures in sprint car racing will be recognized: Knoxville Raceway promoter Ralph “Cappy” Capitani and legendary driver Doug Wolfgang. “Cappy” has been Race Director at Knoxville since 1977 and has been instrumental in building the Knoxville Nationals into the spectacular four day event that it is today. Wolfgang shines as one of the best ever drivers with his five Knoxville Nationals titles in 1977, 1978, 1984, 1985 and 1989. He is also among the all time feature win leaders at Knoxville and a multi time track champion. The green flag is scheduled for 8pm tonight at the Iowa Speedway.
