It took nearly 3 minutes for the Central College men’s basketball team to score last night against Faith Baptist. The Dutch played the next 37 minutes like they were trying to make up for it, streaking their way to a 107-52 non-conference win. Guard Demarco Turner came off the bench and sparked the offense once again, knocking down all six of his 3-point tries, including five in the first half, and finished with 23 points in 21 minutes of action. He set a new school single-game record for most 3’s without a miss.
It was the first time Central topped the century mark since a 104-61 triumph at Monmouth last November and the most points the Dutch have scored since a 118-92 victory over MacMurray on December 18, 2004.
Even with the shaky start, Central hit 65.7 percent from the field in the first half and shot 58.1 percent for the night to Faith Baptist’s 33.9 percent. The Dutch also out-rebounded the Eagles 49-25 Turner also had five assists and four steals. James Chapline had 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists while forward Jack Bruns also had 12 points. Guard K.J. Cool came off the bench to hit a career-best 10 points. With the win, the Central men are now 5-3 overall.
