A Professor of English at Central College recently received the Outstanding Faculty Iowa Campus Compact Community Engagement Award. Walter Cannon tells KNIA/KRLS News that it is an honor to be chosen for such an award. Cannon says that students involved in his course participate in grant writing and over the course 3 years, his students have brought in a total of $38,000 for various community organizations. The award is given to celebrate and recognize one outstanding faculty in the state of Iowa for excellence in implementing successful community engagement initiatives. The award was presented during the Iowa Nonprofit Summit at a breakfast reception Nov. 16 at Reiman Gardens on the campus of Iowa State University.
