John Evenhouse, Head Volleyball coach at Pella Christian High School, recently announced his intention to retire from his coaching position following his 19th season as head coach. While at Pella Christian, Coach Evenhouse compiled a 489-203-49 record. Under his leadership, the Eagles have made ten state tournament appearances advancing to the semifinals four times and reaching the finals in 1996. Coach Evenhouse’s teams have won the Little Hawkeye Conference seven times and finished in second place in five seasons.
Coach Evenhouse attributes his success to the outstanding players he has had the opportunity to coach. In the past nineteen seasons, thirty five Eagles have been voted 1st Team All Conference while playing for an Evenhouse led team. In addition, eleven players have appeared in the Senior All-Star Game, four have been named to the State Finals All-Tournament Team, and nine have been named First Team All-State.
Prior to joining the Pella Christian staff in 1992, Coach Evenhouse was at Trinity Christian College in Illinois where he taught in the PE department and coached volleyball. His coaching career started at Ontario Christian High School in California where he coached JV and Varsity volleyball.
Evenhouse plans to continue teaching Chemistry and Physical Science at Pella Christian in the coming years and supporting the athletics department in other ways. The process for filling head varsity volleyball coaching position at Pella Christian will begin in January.
