Three Central College players are on the D3football.com All-West Region team. Defensive end Shane Wong was a first-team selection. Wong was earlier tabbed as the Iowa Conference defensive player of the year. Placekicker Jake Viggers was a third-team pick, along with defensive lineman Austin Hill.
Wong, a two-time first-team all-conference honoree, compiled a league-leading 11 sacks for a loss of 63 yards and had 49 tackles, including 34 solos, with 17 tackles for loss. He was named the league’s defensive player of the week twice (September 13, November 1) and selected to the D3football.com team of the week (September 13).
Viggers was a third-team all-region selection for the second straight year. Also a two-time first-team all-conference pick, Viggers nailed 44 of 44 extra-point tries in 2010 and was 10 of 17 on field goal attempts.
Hill, a second-team all-conference choice, made 11 tackles for loss with 3.5 sacks, a pass breakup, a fumble recovery and two blocked kicks. He had 40 tackles overall, with 22 solo stops.
Central compiled an 8-2 record this past season.
