A swarming Pella defense was too much for Knoxville to handle, as the Little Dutch stormed past Knoxville 81-44 last night in Pella. Knoxville scored the first basket of the game and kept the game tight in the opening minutes before Pella pulled away in the second quarter and never let up; forcing Knoxville into 32 turnovers that translated into dozens of transition baskets for the Little Dutch.
Kyle Newendorp’s 11 points led Pella on offense, but he was quick to credit the depth and effort of the entire team for their success.
“We have twenty players that can play. ALL of them can play, and we just keep subbing guys [in],” said Newendorp. “We have a lot of heart on this team. We don’t have one specific person that has all the talent, we just have all heart, and that’s what we do.”
Meanwhile, Knoxville Coach Clint Driftmier said while the game was a blowout, the guys played with a lot of effort.
In all, the Little Dutch had a staggering 14 players crack the scoring column; with Grant Barrick also hitting double figures with 10 points. Knoxville’s Lance Daugherty led all scorers with 15 points. The win improves Pella to 2-0 on the season, while Knoxville falls to 1-2 overall. Pella will play A-D-M tonight, while Knoxville will host Centerville on Monday.
