There has been an increase in Bald Eagles in Marion County recently, and according to Marion County Naturalist Marla Mertz, more are on the way. Mertz tells KNIA/KRLS News that due to the warm fall, many of the birds migrated a little later this year, instead of the normal time in November. Mertz adds that of the 266 active nests in Iowa, four are in Marion County and Lake Red Rock is a perfect spot for the Eagles to spend some time due to the food, water and shelter that it provides. Mertz expects to see around 70 Bald Eagles in the area within the next two weeks. The best place to view the birds is under Lake Red Rock Dam.
