Knoxville Hormel employees rallied together to bring in thousands of pounds of food for this year’s KNIA/KRLS food drive. According to Plant Manager Troy Hawkshead he set a goal of raising between 500 and 1000 pounds of food for area food shelves and they split the plant up into four different competing teams. He said things got rather intense and very competitive and as a result the plant was able to donate over 5,500 pounds of food for area communities. Hawkshead says this is unlike anything he has ever been a part of and is so proud of everyone who participated and he has never seen a group of people come together the way the employees at Hormel in Knoxville did for this year’s efforts.

In addition, the local plant is donating product and a cash donation to the food drive, the grocery division has donated more than 1,000 pounds of completes meals and members of the corporate office have also donated personal checks as well. Hawkshead says this just goes to show the depth and the quality of the people who work for the Hormel company. He adds that while he’s not exactly sure how yet, they will beat this year’s record donation next year.

Hawkshead has also worked out details with Marion County Sheriff Ron Goemaat to spend a night in jail due to his team’s success. He told his team that if they could raise 400 pounds of food he would go to jail overnight, orange jumpsuit at all. Hawkshead says if he’s going to spend a night in jail, this is the best reason to do it.
