The Knoxville girls basketball squad got a nice early Christmas gift in their stocking last night with a 45-28 win over Chariton. While the Chargers shot better than Knoxville from the field, the Panthers out-rebounded Chariton 30-21 and committed half as many turnovers than the Chargers. But no one had a warmer hand than Knoxville’s Hannah Rosenkrantz as she nailed four three point shots and scored a career high 18 points to lead the Panthers to their second win of the season. Coach Jim Utiermarkt said Hannah’s first half points likely were the key in keeping Knoxville a float. The Panthers brought their defense out of the locker room in the second half outscoring Chariton 29-10 and holding the Chargers without a field goal for nearly ten consecutive minutes. Utiermarkt also credited Courtney Ryan and her four points and defensive effort off the bench in the second half as well. Knoxville heads to the Christmas break with a 2-6 record and after some time off will get back to the court and start preparing for Grinnell on January fourth.
