With just over a week left of 2010 the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation is in their final push to raise the remaining funds necessary to secure the Hickory Ridge Wilderness Camp. Thanks to recent donations, including $5,000 from the Marion County Foundation and $2,100 from the Red Rock Lake Association, there is just $1,000 left to raise in order to be able to wrap up fundraising for the project this year.
All donations made before the end of the year will be matched by a challenge grant from the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation’s John S. Lowenberg Fund. The total cost of the 200 acre primitive camping and nature area project located south of the Whitebreast Recreation Area on Lake Red Rock is $405,000 though Matt Kissinger of the Lake Red Rock Association says any additional money received will be put to good use to maintain and improve the camp.
