Did you know that the beautiful poinsettias that decorate your home or office during the holidays can be recycled and rebloomed year after year? Marion County Master Gardener Coordinator Karen Ackley says it’s important to take good care of the plant in order for it to survive.

Tips include placing the poinsettia near a sunny window or well lighted location but not letting the plant touch the window pane and keeping it away from cold drafts or heat sources as they prefer temperatures between 60 and 70 degrees. In addition, the plants do not like to be too wet or too dry so Ackley encourages to check the potting soil daily and adding water if the surface is dry to the touch and adding small amounts of water at a time as necessary.

Those who would like more information on how to maintain over the spring, summer and fall are can call the Marion County Extension office at 842-2014.
