The Marion County Fair Queen competition takes place this Saturday. The stage competition starts at 7pm at the First United Methodist Church, and is free and open to the public. Codi Pracher, the organizer of the event and a former Marion County Fair Queen herself, says that the seven candidates will be judged on categories such as personality, poise, and community involvement. Lacy Stevenson, the reigning Queen for both the Marion County Fair and Iowa State Fair, says that being named Queen for Marion County was a special moment for her, as she cares about her community a lot. She comments that if she could tell this year’s candidates anything, it would just be to relax and be themselves. This year’s seven candidates are Katelynn Utterback and Amy Turner, who attend Knoxville High School, Katelyn Sanders, Suzie Baldwin, and Maddie Harken, who attend Pleasantville High School, Taylor Van Woerkom, who attends Pella Christain High School, and Melana Garcia, who attends Twin Cedars High School. KNIA/KRLS’s Spencer Dirks will the Master of Ceremonies of the event.
