The regional FFA soil judging competition returned to Knoxville Tuesday morning. More than 300 students from 30 high schools gathered in a lot just north of 3M in Knoxville to compete in the event. The Knoxville FFA chapter has been hosting the state-qualifying event since 1977. Students tested different soils and compared composition and crop potential, among other variables. Knoxville FFA Director Brent Hanna said that learning about the soil has life-long learning potential, as it affects everything from agriculture to construction to conservation.
