The Pella boys and girls cross country teams each claimed first place finishes at yesterday’s Little Hawkeye Conference meet in Norwalk, with Knoxville claiming third and sixth place in their respective races to lead our local teams.
Zach Buchheit again led the Little Dutch with a first place individual finish, as the five leading scorers for Pella all placed in the top ten to finish with 28 points. Grinnell was second with 62 points and Knoxville placed third with 85.
The Panthers were again led by Wick Cunningham, who placed fourth. The Pella Christian boys finished in seventh place in the team standings and were led by Matthew Spoelstra, who placed 32nd.
In the girls’ race, Pella High’s Gabi Meirick took first place overall, as the Lady Dutch also put their five best times in the top ten on their way to a score of 30. Grinnell was second in the girls’ race as well with a team score of 72.
Knoxville took sixth place, but Alissa VanKlootwyk finished in the top ten individually, claiming sixth place to lead the Panthers. Pella Christian’s girls team took seventh place, with Marina Shannon as their top finisher in 30th place.
