The Pella High wrestling team opened the season on their home mats last night, but were stymied by Newton 55-19.

The Little Dutch did pick up a major decision by Chase Petty at 126 pounds, and Jesse Arrendall added a win at 160 pounds. Pella also earned wins by forfeit at 113 and 120 pounds.

Head coach Joe Burch said he was proud of the effort his team showed, but said an area of emphasis will be physical conditioning.

The Pella wrestling team won’t have much time to prepare, though, as they hit the mats again tomorrow for an invitational at Dallas Center-Grimes
