With snow on the way this weekend, it’s important to remember some winter safety tips. Knoxville Fire Chief Mike Roberts reminds everyone that they should have some sort of winter survival kit in their vehicle. This should include things like blankets, flashlights, and plenty of water. Roberts says that even if the water is frozen, having a battery-operated heater with you can help thaw out that water in the case of an emergency. He adds that you should never leave your vehicle if you are stranded. Instead, call 911 and bundle up to stay warm. The vehicle is your shelter, and leaving it leaves you in the open.
