The Rural History Buffs of Marion County have been adding historic road markers to significant historical sites in rural Marion County, and now they are bringing some stories of our past to the public. The program being offered is titled “Johnny Cake Road, the Red Rock Line, and the Town that Saved the Circus: True Stories and Some Tall Tales of Historic Rural Marion County.”
Among those giving short presentations on a variety of historical topics related to rural Marion County are Will Prather, speaking on the historic Red Rock Line, Megan McKay Ziller on the original Peace Tree, Abie Davis on homesteading in Liberty Township, Dennis Murphy on the Ringling Brothers Circus in Swan, Jill Beebout telling a Columbia Ghost Story, and Helen Boertje on the founding of Porterville.
The program will be January 16, at Peace Tree Brewing at 7PM, and will be moderated by Dr. Bob Leonard. The Rural History Buffs hope the program will be an annual event. It is free and open to the public.
