Tonight marks the final home game of the season for the Pleasantville boys basketball team, and the last ever for this year’s senior members, as the Trojans aim to notch a win over Grandview Park Baptist in a Class 1A District Semifinal match-up. Pleasantville carries an 18-3 record into tonight’s contest, following a 61-56 nail-biter over Martensdale-St. Mary’s last week, while the Defenders are 11-10 overall; earning their way to the semifinals with a 72-51 blowout of Southeast Warren.
Grandview Park Baptist boasts three players who average double figures in scoring, led by Rodney Richardson’s 18-plus points-per-game, but Trojans’ head coach Tom Wilkins says the majority of his focus for the team has not been on their opponent’s strengths.
“I told the kids that, yes, I’d like to know what Grandview’s going to do, but I’m basically worried about us,” said Pleasantville head coach Tom Wilkins. “If we can come out and run our offense like I know we can run our offense; play defense like I know we can play defense; rebound like I know we can rebound – things’ll take care of themselves.”
Derek Cardwell and Trevor Miller will be live in Pleasantville tonight for the call on AM 1320 KNIA, and on kniakrls.com. Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m.
