The mild winter helped keep some money in the county coffers. Marion County Engineer Roger Schletzbaum tells KNIA/KRLS News that they’ve saved about $150,000 after having to do less road maintenance and labor this winter. He adds they’ve saved an additional $20,000 in material, and notes that it’s hard to put a number on how much money they saved in road wear and tear. In a normal winter, the cycle of freezing and thawing that a road goes through puts a lot of stress on it. Roads did not go through that cycle as often this year, meaning they had a decreased amount of damage this year from a normal winter.
