Soggy conditions and a determined Des Moines Christian squad halted a four-game win streak for the Pella Christian boys soccer team, as the Eagles fell 3-2 in overtime Thursday night at Pella Christian. Defense reigned in the first half, as the two squads entered intermission knotted at 0-0. The Lions struck first, putting a goal past Alek Vink early in the second half to take the lead, but a rebound goal by Dan Hessing and a long distance score by Will VandeVoort put the Eagles on top 2-1 late in the contest.
It appeared that Pella Christian was headed for its fifth straight win, but another Des Moines Christian strike with roughly five minutes remaining tied the game at 2-2 and ultimately sent the match to overtime. With ten more minutes on the clock, the Lions scored once more to end the match at 3-2. Alek Vink recorded 16 saves on the night for the Eagles, who slip to 5-2 on the season.
