The Knoxville School Board continued a discussion on code of conduct policies during their regular meeting yesterday evening. The plan includes a five-strike system for violations involving drugs, alcohol, and tobacco, where each infraction is built on for the entirety of the student’s high school career.
The first infraction would mean the student would sit out for one-third of the season; the second would be one-half; the third and fourth infractions would mean the student would be suspended for multiple seasons and the fifth would end the student’s involvement in extra-curricular activities. Also included were equivalent provisions for extra-curricular clubs.
Students would start at zero infractions except for those who are carrying over infractions from this past school year – they’ll be carrying over the number they have. The final plan will be approved later this summer.
