Another Mine Reclamation Field Day will be held at the Goff Mine today. The Goff Mine Reclamation Project consists of 200 acres of land that was disturbed by unregulated surface coal mining during the 1950s. The results of the mining led to serious water quality concerns due to high sediment loads and acid runoff. A number of different agencies have been working together to reclaim the land by eliminating that acid drainage and reducing sediment, among other solutions.

The field day will allow the public to tour the project and view aspects of the reclamation process. The public will also learn more about how different groups have come together to make the project possible. This Wednesday’s program is free and runs from 10am to 1pm. To get to the Goff Mine, drive south on Highway 5 from Knoxville, then turn east on Oregon Drive. The mine site will be on the north side of the road. A free lunch will be offered at the mine site as well.
