Iowa crops have been hurt by the drought that has gripped much of the country for the past months with the USDA reporting that 46% of the corn crop is in poor to very poor condition.

Some Iowa fields are ready to be harvested much earlier than usual, but Dennis Van Gorp at Van Gorp Insurors says that farmers need to be in contact with their insurance agent to make sure they don’t hurt their federal crop insurance opportunities. Kyle Edwards at Van Gorp Insurors says a crop insurance meeting will be held in Pella later this week, with various speakers talking about some of the requirements for federal crop insurance and other potential issues that will impact farmers and livestock producers. The meeting will be held at 1pm on Friday at Pella Christian High School.
