A weekend full of motorcycles revs up Friday at the Knoxville Raceway. A vintage motorcycle dirt track event kicks things off this evening.
Tomorrow, the National Hall of Fame and Museum will host their Charity Bike Ride, with registration beginning at 9am. The AMA Pro Flat-Track National Championship is the main event on Saturday. Practice begins at 3:30 Saturday afternoon at the Raceway. Opening ceremonies and heat races start up at around 7pm.
Driver Kenny Coolbeth says that Knoxville is one of the fastest tracks on the circuit, with bikes reaching up to 100 miles per hour. Last year featured two historic main events, and Shayna Texter became the first female driver to win a main event in the Pro Singles class. Meanwhile, the winner and runner-up in the Expert Singles class were separated by just four-ten thousandths of a second. Coolbeth says he expects things will probably be pretty tight again this weekend.
