A chance at a 4-0 start to the season lies in front of the Pella Christian football team tonight, as the Eagles try and add on another win in Class 1A District 7. Rival Des Moines Christian comes to Pella tonight, carrying with them their usual brand of physical football that relies heavily on the running game.

“We’ve got to stop their fullback and we’ve got to stop their quarterback. They’re their two leading rushers,” said Pella Christian head coach Rich Kacmarynski. “We’ve got to stop their fullback dive, we’ve got to stop their triple-option attack, [and] we’ve got to know where their quarterback is at all times. Much like last week when we had to know where [Central Decatur’s Dalton Gilbert] was at all times, we’ve got to know where [Ben Burkett] is at all times, because he’s a guy that can take it to the house at a moment’s notice.”

The Lions are 1-2 overall and coming off of a 14-9 loss to Ogden in last week’s district opener that saw Des Moines Christian turn the ball over five times. Pella Christian, meanwhile, boasts a powerful run game as well, led by senior Caleb Morgan’s 358 yards through three games.

Tonight’s game will be streamed live at kniakrls.com – and on a delayed broadcast on 92.1 KRLS following the Pella High vs. Knoxville game – with Jamie Brockman and Larry Hessing live at Pella Christian High School for the call. Coverage begins at 7:00 p.m. tonight with kickoff at 7:30.
