The Scholte House opened an exhibit on Marion County and the Civil War on Saturday. The exhibit will run for two months and is free and open to the public. A celebration was held during the opening day of the exhibit that incorporated Civil War tunes and period attire. Speakers at the ceremony discussed the sacrifices made by the people of Marion County. Most of the residents in Marion County were immigrants at the time, many of whom could not even speak English, yet they were willing to fight for the Union. Ellie Gosselink at the Historic Pella Trust says that Pella hasn’t had that kind of old fashioned patriotic celebration in nearly a century.
